The Toronto Listening Center studied the impact of the TOMATIS Method on 400 children and adolescents with well-documented histories of learning problems, and a pattern of under-achievement on psycho-educational tests. The results of the study were based on a survey graded by the Tomatis participants' parents. Improvements were seen in the following areas:
In a six-month follow up assessment with the original 400 parent survey participants, 83% of the children had maintained the improvements and/or had continued to make further gains. An additional 14% of the original 400 had maintained some of the gains. Only 3% maintained none of the improvements.
For most people, the process includes a minimum of 60 hours of listening in two sessions of 30 hours each. This is usually completed within a 3-month period. The sessions typically include both passive listening where the client simply listens to the individualized program written for his or her own ears and active listening where, using a microphone, he or she either reads aloud while still listening to Mozart, or repeats Gregorian Chant. The active listening is designed to help strengthen specific sounds that may be missing or weak in her auditory processing. Additional listening may continue past three months, if appropriate. About the Program.
Generally, we track changes three ways: with daily reports from clients, listening re-tests, and ongoing reports after listening is completed. Concrete changes are often seen when:
Yes. Once the program is completed, changes will last. Any future trauma to the ear such as severe illness or an accident may result in changes to a person’s listening skills. More About the Ear.
Some children and adults are unable to follow auditory instructions or sit for the listening test. In these cases, the in-depth questionnaire and a visual interview are helpful in knowing how to write the client’s program. The listening test is valuable when possible to complete. There are program protocols designed for clients who cannot complete the IA.
No. The TOMATIS Method is an education training program and is not covered under medical insurance. On occasion, an employer offers support for programs to help families. The TOMATIS Method may be covered in this type of program.
Mozart’s music is very complex, covering several octaves and a wide range of sound. A study done at UC Irvine found Mozart touches human brain activity, providing openings for learning. That is why Mozart's music has been proven to be so beneficial for learning and education.
Listening to Mozart at any time supports learning skills; however, the TOMATIS Method uses patented technology that individualizes the listening experience and stimulates your ears through a personal program that dramatically affects auditory processing.
Each client's TOMATIS Method program is tailored to meet his or her specific needs. The length depends on two factors:
Some clients respond more quickly than others. As much as possible, we try to give an accurate estimate for the duration of the program before starting. Keeping this in mind, an average program consists of three blocks and approximately 70 hours in total. However, some clients may need additional blocks.
The price for the diagnostic meeting which will assess the extent of difficulties as well as possible positive effect of the Listening program (opportunities / range of improvement) is 2250, - CZK. The diagnostic meeting contains:
The length of diagnostic meeting is usually 90 to 120 minutes.
The price for one hour listening starts at CZK 420 including VAT (particular case: the type of program - Developing listening program + selected price advantage - "Three for the price of two"). It is possible to use price discount at therapeutic programs as well. Nevertheless necessity of more frequent listening testing during the entire program, the need of dedicated assistant involvement while listening program (concerns to children clients) have an impact on price indeed. The average price for one listening hour is approximately 650, - CZK, prices of therapeutic programs for severe cases and small children can be up to 825,-CZK for 1 hour of listening.
Therapeutic programs are comparing to developing programs more expensive due to more frequent examination and performing listening tests and the necessity of involving personal assistant for the child while listening. Active involvement of experts (speech therapist, psychologist, special education teacher, phoniatrist etc.) effects also the final cost of the program.
No. The TOMATIS Method is a portable, educational application. You do your program in your own home after meeting with a Consultant and receiving instructions on the easy-to-use equipment. You return the borrowed equipment to the certified Consultant at the end of your sessions, in postage-paid packaging if you are at some distance from the Consultant. About the Program.
